Within the budgetary limitations materials requested
that are not unnecessary duplicates of library holdings will be ordered
if a source of supply can be found. Request cards for material determined
to be out of print or unavailable from regular trade sources, will be returned
to the requesting department with suggestions or questions about procuring
the material.
Requests designated “rush” receive immediate attention by the Acquisitions
and Catalog Departments. These requests are searched in the normal
pattern except that an extended search for cataloging copy is not conducted
prior to order. Efforts are made to obtain “rush” items through local
sources or to place the orders by telephone. Priority shipment is
often requested. “Rush” orders may be acquired directly from the
publishers or a known source of supply.
Requests submitted from an out of print dealers’s
catalog are designated “rush-order,” which means that they receive immediate
attention by the Acquisitions Department but are handled in the normal
manner by the Catalog Department (unless the material is urgently needed
by the individual making the request).
Request cards bearing the phrases “notify (name)”
or “reserve (course number and semester)” receive prompt attention by the
Acquisitions and Catalog Departments. When completely cataloged, the Circulation
Department or other holding agency notifies the requester.
