The film Stax: Tellin' It Like It Was is a look
at the Memphis-based Stax Record Company from its inception in the mid-1960s to its unfortunate demise in 1975. The video makes it clear that Memphis and the international music community lost a gem when Stax folded. Producer Lou Paris interviewed former Stax artists, staff, and members of the community to tell the story, and used archival pictures and video to illustrate it.
Lou earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree from the University of Memphis' University College in 2005. Stax: Tellin' It Like It Was was named one of the outstanding University College senior projects that year.
Lou Paris is a native of the Bronx and Amityville, New York. He was on active duty in the Air Force for more than 20 years, and he spent almost 20 years as a broadcast journalist for various east coast radio and television stations. He is married to Dr. Sylverna Ford, Dean of University Libraries. They have three children two live with them in Germantown and an adult son resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The public is invited to attend this important lecture without admission fee.
