Dr. Janann Sherman (l.) is the Olin Atkins Professor of History and chair of the History Department
at the U of M. Her publications include The Perfect 36: Tennessee Delivers Woman Suffrage (co-author),
the prize-winning biography No Place for a Woman: A Life of Senator Margaret Chase Smith,
and a forthcoming biography of Memphis' pioneer aviator, Phoebe Fairgrave Omlie.
Dr. Beverly Bond (r.) is an associate professor in the History Department and Director of the U of M African
and African-American Studies Program. Her publications include numerous articles, book chapters, and
encyclopedia entries on African-American women, as well as the forthcoming Troublesome Times:
African-American Women in Memphis 1820-1905.
Come hear these scholars discuss the writing of their book Memphis in Black and White, and the discoveries they made during the process.
