- Food is prohibited in The University Libraries
- Tobacco use is prohibited in The University Libraries
- Non-alcoholic beverages in permitted, spill-proof containers and
bottles with screw top lids are allowed in most areas of The University
Libraries. Care must be taken to keep lids securely closed except at
the time of drinking. Beverages may not be consumed in prohibited
containers or taken into areas that have been designated as Drink Free
Zones.
Rationale
The food, drink and tobacco policy is instituted by The University
Libraries to ensure the preservation of collections, library equipment,
and facilities and to maintain a healthful environment. Food in trash
cans or crumbs on the carpet attract mice, rats, cockroaches, and
silverfish. These pests are likely to damage library materials and can
pose potential health hazards to human beings. Spills from food and
drink can cause permanent stains, mold, and mildew on materials,
furnishings, and carpets.
Please help us maintain a clean environment conducive to study and
research by keeping our facilities pest-free and damage-free.
