Where
to Find a Book or Journal
Use information
from its tomCat record to find a book or journal.
Status
The status line will tell you whether a book is checked out, lost,
or has recently been ordered. Journals cannot be checked out.
Location
Check here to find out which of the University Libraries has the book or
journal.
Call Number
Write down the call
number. It acts as the "address" of an item in the library. In McWherter Library:
- books whose call numbers begin with the letters A-K are on the 3rd Floor
- books whose call numbers begin L-Z are on the 4th floor
- If a book is labeled oversize, it will be at the very back, or eastern, side of the floor.
Periodicals are located on the 2nd Floor. Periodicals do not have call numbers in McWherter Library.
- current or unbound periodicals are on the south side in alphabetical order by title
- bound periodicals are on the east side in alphabetical order by title
- microforms are located on the north side--they are filed in cabinets by format (microfilm or microfiche) and then alphabetically by title.
