Tours

  • Memphis Music Tour
Much of the music we hear today had its roots in the Memphis music heritage. The Memphis Music Tour takes you to important Memphis music landmarks like Sun Studios, Stax Museum of American Soul and the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum. You'll experience the studios where musical legends B. B. King, Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded music that made history. This tour validates Memphis' place at the birth of Soul, Rock 'n' Roll and Rhythm and Blues.
    Tuesday, February 21, 2006, 2:00-5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, February 22, 2006, 3:00-6:00 p.m.

  • Graceland
As the Paul Simon tune suggests, "Everyone is marching into Graceland, poor boys and pilgrims and families." Some say it's a spiritual experience. Some just enjoy the kitsch. The tour of Elvis' 14 acre estate includes the mansion, with its jungle den and music room; Elvis' personal office; the trophy building with all the gold records and awards; and the two airplanes used by Elvis for touring, the Lisa Maria and the Hound Dog. There is also a visit to the Meditation Garden where Elvis and his family have been laid to rest.
    Wednesday, February 22, 2006, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Contact Blues City Tours directly for reservations and payment.

  • Heritage Tour
The tour begins on Beale Street at the home of W. C. Handy, composer of Memphis Blues and Beale Street Blues, and winds around much of the downtown area of Memphis. Topics covered include the role of "King Cotton" in Memphis growth, early slave trading centers, and the Underground Railroad stop at the Burkle Estate. Also included are antebellum homes and the history of Union occupation, as well as sites connected with Martin Luther King and the Sanitation Workers Strike.
