Use tomCat (the U of M Library
catalog).
For subject searches, use Library of Congress Subject Headings such as painting, modern 19th century france or painters france . (LC Subject Headings volumes are available in Reference.) The majority of items in this subject area will begin with the call letter 'N' and will be located on the 4th floor.
Also try searching by keywords such as monet pissarro or monet exhibitions .
(Leave out words like in, of, on, and the; AND is assumed between words).
For books about artists and their works, use the artist's name as a subject; e.g.,
monet, claude .
For video tapes, use videorecording as a keyword; e.g. impressionism
videorecording
Copy the call number from the catalog record to find the book. (See How to Find Books.)

Covers periodicals in the fine and decorative arts along with non-Western art, new and contemporary art, crafts, costume, textiles, and such tradiditional areas as art research, art history, architecture, and archaeology. Includes periodicals, yearbooks, museum bulletins, competition and award notices, exhibition listings, interviews, film reviews, and more. Search as part of the Wilson Omnifile either as a single database (select "ART" from the drop down list) or in combination with any or all of the other 10 Wilson databases. Coverage: 1984-; full text, 1997-.
JSTOR [UM Only] The JSTOR database consists of complete backfiles of core scholarly journals which have been digitized, starting with the very first issues.

Museum of Online Museums [Open Access] Portal to museum and gallery sites, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Bauhaus Archive, and the Art Institute of Chicago, plus other online collections.
New York Public Library's Digital Gallery [Open Access] Digital image collection of prints, maps, manuscripts, poster, photos, sheet music covers, dust jackets, menus, cigarette cards, and more.
Philosopher's Index (1940 - ) [UM Only] Provides indexing and abstracts from books and journals of philosophy and related fields such as ethics, aesthetics, social and political philosophy, epistemology, the philosophy of law, education, language, and the like. Coverage: 1940-.
Project Muse (Full-text) [UM Only] Provides electronic full text of more than 200 scholarly journals in arts and humanities, social sciences, and mathematics.
PsycINFO (1887 - ) [UM Only]
Provides citations and abstracts to articles in over 1,300 journals, plus books and book chapters, and dissertations. Includes thesaurus of subject headings.

Electronic Journals Service (EJS) [UM Only] Electronic journals service available through a common interface for online journal subscriptions. Search, browse, and identify journals and articles available online in either full-text or table-of-content format. Hyperlinks are provided to more than 1,300 electronic journals worldwide.
Expanded Academic Index (1980-) [UM Only]
Indexes about 1,900 magazines, journals, and the NY Times newspaper. Most have abstracts, and about 900 are full text.
IngentaConnect [Open Access]
Formerly Uncover. Browse the publication list or search tables of contents to over 17,000 periodicals; period of coverage varies. Provides document delivery service.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe [UM Only] Provides full text of many magazines and newspapers, including The Commercial Appeal since 1990.
