I. Books & Audiovisuals

Use tomCat (the U of M Library catalog).

For subject searches, use Library of Congress Subject Headings such as corporate planning or industrial management or corporations, American. (LC Subject Headings volumes are available in Reference.)

Also try searching by keywords such as corporate restructuring or corporations japan united states. (Leave out words like in, of, on, and the; AND is assumed between words).

Video tapes can be located by using videorecording as a keyword. Example: business internet videorecording .

Copy the call number from the catalog record to find the book. (See How to Find Books.)

netLibrary [UM Only] A collection of over 46,000 electronic books in various disciplines. Some of these items may be available in print as well as electronically.

A. Electronic Indexes and Full-Text Collections

Use an electronic database. These are recommended. Other periodical databases are listed on Periodical Databases by Adademic Area. For help finding articles try How to Find Articles in Periodicals and refer to How to find Print Periodicals for help locating the articles you've found. If the periodical is available electronically, you will find a link to it from the electronic journals list.

ABI/Inform (business journals, 1985-) [UM Only]
The most comprehensive business database. Many full text with images, not as many in earlier volumes.
Business and Industry(1994 - ) [UM Only]
Covers 1200+ publications, including leading trade magazines, newsletters, the general business press and international business dailies.
Business Dateline (1985 - ) [UM Only]
Indexes mostly newspapers, including the Commercial Appeal and Memphis Business Journal. Does not include text of articles.
Business Source Premier(1965-)[UM Only]
Provides full text for more than 2,800 scholarly business journals, 900 peer-reviewed business publications. Includes virtually all subject areas related to business. Coverage 1965-, or first published issue, some as far back as 1922.
Economics Literature (EconLit)(1969 - ) [UM Only]
Indexes about 620 journals plus books, dissertations and working papers on economics.
Emerald Fulltext [UM Only]
Emerald publishes a strong specialist range of engineering, applied science and technology journals.
Gartner, Inc. (Market Research in Information Technology; log in with your UUID and password) [UM Only]
Search or browse the collection of market research reports from Gartner, Inc., the largest IT research organization in the world. Over 1000 analysts provide information and data on IT technologies as well as how technology is being used in public and private organizations around the world. General Business File, 1980 - [UM Only]
Analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics. Access to a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals and directory listings with full text and images available. Covers 2657 periodical titles, 2042 full text. JSTOR (full text archive) [UM Only]
Indexes and stores back issues of important finance, economic and statistics journals.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe [UM Only]
Provides full text of many magazines and newspapers, including The Commercial Appeal since 1990. Includes many trade and business publications; company and industry information.
PsycINFO (1887 - ) [UM Only]
Provides citations and abstracts to articles in over 1,300 journals, plus books and book chapters, and dissertations. Includes thesaurus of subject headings.
RePEC: Research Papers in Economics [Open Access]
An elelctronic archive intended to aid in the dissemination of research in the field of Economics. Includes bibliographic information on journal articles, books, book chapters, working papers, and software components. While not providing full-text access, many items include links to downloadable material which which may or may not require subscriptions. Several search interfaces are available; see "How you can use RePEC."
Sociological Abstracts [UM Only]
Provides access to the latest research in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Indexing began 1963; abstracting began 1974.

The Government Publications Department, on the first floor of McWherter Library, is a designated depository library for the United States Government and for Tennessee Government. Valuable information produced in print and electronic formats by various federal and state agencies are available here. Staff in the department will assist you in finding and using these resources.
