For subject searches, use Library of Congress Subject Headings such as hispanic americans or latin americans or mexican americans. (LC Subject Headings volumes are available in Reference.) NOTE: Hispanic Americans is the subject heading used to describe works on United States citizens of Latin American descent. Works on citizens of Latin American countries are entered under Latin Americans. Works on citizens of Latin American countries in the United States are entered under Latin Americans--United States. The term Spanish Americans refers to citizens or permanent residents of the United States who trace their heritage directly to Spain. Use the name of a country to be more specific; for example, Cuba--history or Mexicans. To find books about individuals, search by subject; e.g., García Márquez, Gabriel or Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, Alvar. NOTE: If you are not sure of the order of the persons name, search by subject keyword. Also try searching by keywords such as latinoamericana cultura or hispanic women health (leave out words like in, of, on, and the; AND is assumed between words). NOTE: Use a question mark to pick up variant endings. For example latino? will retrieve latino, latinos, latinoamericana, latinoamericano,, latinoamericanos, etc. Copy the call number from the catalog record to find the book. If the periodical is available electronically, you will find a link to it from the electronic journals list. ClasePeriodica [UM Only] Index to citations from 2,600 Latin American journals on humanities, social science, science, and technology topics. Includes articles, technical reports, essays, reviews, conference proceedings and brief notes written in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English. JSTOR [UM Only] The JSTOR database consists of complete backfiles of core scholarly journals such as Hispanic Review and Journal of Latin American Studies, all of which have been digitized, starting with the very first issues. Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe [UM Only] Provides full text of many magazines and newspapers, including The Commercial Appeal since 1990. Good for book reviews and articles about authors. Literature Resource Center (LRC) [UM Only] Literature Resource Center provides full text access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from all ages and literary disciplines. More than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, and journalists are covered. The 2,500 most-studies authors are covered in-depth. MLA International Bibliography (periodicals and books chapters, 1963 - ) [UM Only] Indexes 4,000 periodicals covering literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore. Project Muse (Full-text) [UM Only] Provides electronic full text of more than 200 scholarly journals in arts and humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. Sociological Abstracts [UM Only] Provides access to the latest research in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Indexing began 1963; abstracting began 1974. Electronic Journals Service (EJS) [UM Only] Electronic journals service available through a common interface for online journal subscriptions. Search, browse, and identify journals and articles available online in either full-text or table-of-content format. Hyperlinks are provided to more than 1,300 electronic journals worldwide. Expanded Academic Index (1980-) [UM Only] Indexes about 1,900 magazines, journals, and the NY Times newspaper. Most have abstracts, and about 900 are full text.
