Use tomCat (the U of M Library
catalog).
To search holdings only in the Music Library, select "Music Branch Library at UofM" from the holdings location menu on the Web Basic Search. If using the Telnet version of the catalog, log in with the User Name PAC0104.
For subject searches, use Library of Congress Subject Headings such as music theory 18th century or symphony orchestras .
For books about musicians and their works, use the musicians's name as a subject;
e.g., beethoven ludwig van.
Also try searching by keywords such as beethoven symphonies or beethoven mozart.
For sound recordings, search by keywords : e.g., compact disc violin piano or sound recording beethoven .
For scores, search by keywords : e.g. beethoven scores .
Copy the call number from the catalog record to find the book. (See How to Find Books.)
netLibrary [UM Only] A collection of over 55,000 electronic books in various disciplines. Some of these items may be available in print as well as electronically.
Use an electronic database.

If the periodical is available electronically, you will find a link to it from the electronic journals

Classical Music Online [UM Only] The world's largest multi-label database of recordings for listening and learning in libraries. Search or browse by composer, artist, conductor, ensemble, instrument, genre, period, or label. Genres include orchestral music, chamber music, instrumental music, stage & screen, vocal & choral, and opera & operetta. Coverage: varies.
International Index to Music Periodicals (1996) [UM Only] Indexes 400+ music periodicals, with about 80 including full-text.
RILM Music Abstracts (Music periodicals, 1969 -) [UM Only]
Repertoire International de Litterature Musicale. International coverage with abstracts from articles, books, bibliographies, catalogues, dissertations, Festschriften, icnonographies, critical commentaries to complete works, conference proceedings, and reviews.

Expanded Academic Index (1980-) [UM Only]
Indexes about 1,900 magazines, journals, and the NY Times newspaper. Most have abstracts, and about 900 are full text.
Humanities Full Text (citations, abstracts, full text).[UM Only]
Indexes periodicals in archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature. Coverage: citations & abstracts, 1984- ; full text, 1995-
IngentaConnect [Open Access]
Formerly Uncover. Browse the publication list or search tables of contents to over 17,000 periodicals; period of coverage varies. Provides document delivery service.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe [UM Only]
Provides full text of many magazines and newspapers, including The Commercial Appeal since 1990.
JSTOR [UM Only] The JSTOR database consists of complete backfiles of core scholarly journals which have been digitized, starting with the very first issues.
MLA International Bibliography (periodicals and books chapters, 1963 - ) [UM Only]
Indexes 4,000 periodicals covering literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore.

Oxford Reference Online [UM Only] The Oxford Reference Online Premium collection is an online collection of dictionaries and encyclopedias in many fields including: art & architecture, bilingual dictionaries, biological science, classics, computing, earth & environmental sciences, economics & business, English dictionaries and thesauruses, English language reference, food & drink, history, law, literature, maps & illustrations, military history, mythology & folklore, names & places, performing arts, physical sciences & mathematics, politics & social sciences, quotations, religion & philosophy, and science.
PowerSearch [UM Only] Searches the 12 InfoTrac databases simultaneously.
Project Muse (Full-text) [UM Only] Provides electronic full text of more than 200 scholarly journals in arts and humanities, social sciences, and mathematics.
PsycINFO (1887 - ) [UM Only]
Provides citations and abstracts to articles in over 1,300 journals, plus books and book chapters, and dissertations. Includes thesaurus of subject headings.
Social Sciences Full Text (citations, abstracts, full text).[UM Only]
Part of Wilson Omni File Mega. Indexes and in many cases provides full text for periodicals in the social sciences. Coverage: citations & abstracts, 1983- ; full text, 1995-
Sociological Abstracts [UM Only] Provides access to the latest research in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Indexing began 1963; abstracting began 1974.
Web of Knowledge Resources specific to the Humanities on WoK include Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Current Contents Connect for Arts & Humanities, ISI Proceedings for Social Science and the Humanities.

Publications related to music issued by federal and Tennessee state agencies are available online and in the Government Publications Department on the first floor of McWherter Library. Staff in the department will assist you in finding and using
both electronic and print materials produced by various federal and state agencies, such as the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress has an extensive collection of sound recordings, many of which are available online, in their American Folklife Center.

Historic American Sheet Music - The Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University holds a significant
collection of 19th and early 20th century American sheet music. The Historic American Sheet Music
Project provides access to digital images of 3042 pieces from the collection, published in the United
States between 1850 and 1920.
National Endowment for the Arts Provides useful information for artists on how to obtain grants, funding, health insurance, and more.
Library of Congress American Folklife Center Sound recordings available online. Their online special collections include:
