I. Books & Audiovisuals

Use tomCat (the U of M Library catalog).

Also try searching by keywords such as russia civil war or china japan relations. (Leave out words like in, of, on, and the; AND is assumed between words).

For books about individuals, use the person's name as a subject; e.g., charles II, king of england

Note: in some cases, the telnet version of tomCat works better than the web version. For example:

To search specifically for a work by two authors, use author keyword; e.g., smith jones.
To find a book by keywords in a title, use title keyword; e.g., france britain war
To limiting a search to names in the subject field, use subject keyword; e.g., charles II england .

To find book-length bibliographies, search by subject keywords; e.g., france history bibliography .

For video tapes, use the term "videorecording" as a keyword; e.g. holocaust videorecording .

Copy the call number from the catalog record to find the book. (See How to Find Books.)
