Astronomical Applications from the U.S. Naval Observatory
This site includes many different astronomical calculators, including sun and moon rise for the years 1700-2100, for both national and international cities. Other calculators include lunar eclipse, altitude and azimuth of the sun and moon, among others. Instructions do not always include information on the dates included, so be creative.

Federal Geographic Data Committee
An interagency committee of the Federal government, the FGDC coordinates the use, sharing, and dissemination of geospatial data in cooperation with federal, state, and local governments.

GEOnet Names Server
The National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (formerly the Defense Mapping Agency) database of over 5 million geographic feature names from around the world. Even though no maps are produced, latitude and longitude are returned.

Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names Browser
Searching place names results in a very detailed description that includes equivalence, associative, and hierarchical relationships. No maps are currently included but are planned.

Maps and Data for federal and state geographic information.

Geospatial One-Stop
An intergovernmental project managed by the Department of the Interior in support of the President's Initiative for E-government, Geospatial One Stop builds upon its partnership with the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) to improve the ability of the public and government to use geospatial information to support the business of government and facilitate decision-making.

This center collects a variety of USGS digital cartographic data products including maps and photos.

Map Service Center - FEMA
Digital Q3 flood data that is used to determine insurance products used by FEMA. Listings by state and county are available.

National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse - USGS
A pathway to the metadata sets on geospatial data. The data is here but appropriate software is needed to use the data.

National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA)
This site provides imagery intelligence and geospatial information in support of the nation's military forces and national policy makers and civil users.

National Ocean Service Mapfinder

Geographic Resources Analysis Support System (GRASS)
GRASS is an open source Geographical Information System (GIS) with raster, topological vector, image processing, and graphics production functionality that operates on various platforms through a graphical user interface and shell in X-Windows. It is released under GNU General Public License (GPL).

Infomine Maps & GIS - (UC/Riverside)
