U.S. Census for Demographic Information
Geographic Level - Census Tract
Census Tract Definition
Census tracts usually contain between 2,500 and 8,000 people, and should average approximately 4,000 people. Accordingly, the size of tracts varies widely, depending on the density of settlement. They are designed to be homogeneous with respect to population characteristics, economic status, and living conditions when first delineated. Data available includes race, sex, educational attainment, income, school enrollment, housing characteristics, housing value, and much more.
Block Groups (BG) are clusters of blocks within a census tract
Blocks are small areas usually bounded on all sides by streets. Data available for blocks is limited due to the confidentiality factor.
